Dilico Children’s Foundation Launch: New charity will improve the lives of children and youth in Northwestern Ontario

March 25th, 2010, Thunder Bay, ON – The Dilico Children’s Foundation was officially launched by representatives from Dilico Anishinabek Family Care today. Dilico Children’s Foundation is a new not-for-profit organization that grants life enriching opportunities to Anishinabek children, youth and families.
“Many families in our First Nations do not get to enjoy the same educational, health, recreational and cultural opportunities as their peers,” said Don Auger, Executive Director of Dilico Anishinabek Family Care. “The Dilico Children’s Foundation has been established to help bridge these inequalities by providing life enriching experiences to children and families who face social and economic barriers.”
The Dilico Children’s Foundation will provide additional resources over and above those provided through mainstream government funding programs and services. The types of initiatives to be funded include education scholarships and bursaries, summer camps, sports team fees and recreational equipment. The Foundation Board of Directors will solicit community donors, manage various giving funds and identify suitable recipient children and families.
As part of today’s launch event, TD Bank Financial Group was introduced as a founding donor of the new Dilico Children’s Foundation.
